Director, Development

We seek a unique individual who will perform a critical role in creating and overseeing, the vision and direction of WJCT’s fundraising strategies to include targeted campaigns, annual and planned giving as well as major gifts. Will create a balanced mix of donor sources, and solicitation programs tailored to build and grow the stations current base of support and expansion to broader constituencies. Will meet with major and prospective donors to create and foster relationships.

General Duties:

  • Craft and implement a comprehensive strategy to raise funds from individuals, corporate and foundation donors;
  • Formulate fundraising goals to secure annual and multi-year commitments, implement long range strategic fundraising plans and activities to achieve targeted goals;
  • Identify and personally solicit prospects for major and planned gifts, articulate the need for support to potential donors; take responsibility for key funder relationships and ensure effective communications, involvement and appreciation for each funder;
  • Board and volunteer management with regards to donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship;
  • Write persuasive proposals and correspondence to prospective and prior funders; ensure all gifts received are acknowledged in a timely manner;
  • Develop effective communication and solicitation strategies in concert with our Corporate Communications dept;
  • Monitor all donor information; analyze and present statistical reports to the Board and Sr. Management;
  • Manage Development dept. budget within guidelines;
  • Model effective leadership and provide guidance to direct reports and staff, articulate WJCT’s mission, vision and values.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field &/or equivalent related experience; advanced degree preferred;
  • 7+ years demonstrated success in relevant fundraising, capital campaign experience a plus;
  • Impressive track record of deepening relationships with funders or clients and personally closing new relationships to achieve expected results;
  • Personal maturity that translates into the ability to influence and engage a wide range of civic, philanthropic and business leaders;
  • Experience with annual giving, special events, and foundation and corporate fundraising;
  • Experience leading board members and other volunteers in fundraising;
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written presentation skills;
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team. Ability to accept and give feedback, work collaboratively with diverse groups of people;
  • Experience in marketing or planned giving a plus;
  • Familiarity with Raisers Edge or equivalent donor management system and web-based research;
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include nights and weekends.

MANAGER, DONOR RELATIONS

The Donor Relations Manager should understand the importance of building life-long relationships between WJCT and the community. They will be responsible for the on-going identification, qualification, cultivation, and successful solicitation of mid-to-high level prospects and donors. In concert with upper management will coordinate all mid-to-high level fund raising and cultivation events as well as other designated donor activities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Communications, Marketing or a related field &/or equivalent related work experience;
  • A working knowledge of Raisers Edge or a similar donor management database;
  • Minimum of (3) years relevant fundraising experience; Major Gifts preferred;
  • Proven marketing strategy development and successful implementation skills;
  • Integrity, coupled with an entrepreneurial spirit expected;
  • Strong communications skills (written & verbal) and presentation skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Applications;
  • Proven interpersonal strength with the ability to build effective and constructive relationships with the development team, donors, prospective donors, WJCT staff etc.
  • Self-starter; with the proven ability to work effectively in high-tension situations, maintain composure under pressure and still meet or exceed deadlines;
  • Exceptional problem solving and analysis skills;
  • Strong understanding of business practices;
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include nights and weekends.
