MORNING EDITION HOST/REPORTER

Position is responsible for hosting Morning Edition, anchoring the most popular news program on our air, Monday – Friday. This position requires organization and creativity in the delivery of local news content, and in the additional reporter duties.

Job Duties:

  • Host, Morning Edition show;
  • Report news, conduct live and taped interviews, produce spot news and feature pieces;
  • Participate in editorial meetings on news coverage, the First Coast Connect call-in show, and In Context, the weekly magazine show as needed;
  • Produce radio documentaries as assigned;
  • Participate in local radio and TV projects;
  • Participate in station fundraising drives;
  • Write entries for WJCT blog;
  • Interface with elected officials, newsmakers, television producers, journalists from other organizations, and community leaders;

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Journalism, Broadcasting or related field &/or related equivalent experience;
  • Training in the operation of broadcast equipment;
  • Minimum three (3) years on-air experience, public broadcasting preferred;
  • Minimum two (2) years experience as a journalist/reporter, public broadcasting preferred;
  • Ability to operate broadcast equipment; prefer experience using Adobe Audition; Microsoft Office Products;
  • Proven ability to follow format clocks and effectively present material on air;
  • Proven ability to gather and synthesize news for presentation on air;
  • Proven ability to conduct interviews in studio and on location;
  • Proven ability to work unsupervised on deadline;
  • Proven ability to write and speak clearly:
  • Knowledge of public radio style of reporting and presentation.
  • Superior organizational skills with proven attention to detail;
  • Strengths working in both an individual and team environment;
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid Florida Drivers License.

RADIO CALL IN- HOST/PRODUCER

Position supervises and produces a daily call-in news magazine for air on WJCT/FM

Job Duties:

  • Host an hour long Monday through Friday call-in program, First Coast Connect;
  • Contact guests, write scripts, prepare questions for call-in program;
  • Conduct and record interviews in the studio and field;

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Journalism, Broadcasting or related field &/or related equivalent experience;
  • Training in audio editing and field recording techniques;
  • 3 – 5 years in radio journalism required; public broadcasting preferred;
  • At least one (1) year experience producing and/or hosting a call-in program required;
  • Participate in station fundraising drives;
  • Write entries for WJCT blog;
  • Minimum two (2) years experience as a journalist/reporter, public broadcasting preferred;
  • Ability to record live events and conduct interviews in the field and studio;
  • Ability to produce features and spot news for radio;
  • Extensive knowledge of digital audio editing;
  • Extensive editorial knowledge and judgment;
  • Proven ability to write and speak clearly:
  • Ability to serve as television on-air talent;
  • Interface with elected officials, news makers, television producers, journalist from other organizations, and community leaders;
  • Superior organizational skills with proven attention to detail;
  • Strengths working in both an individual and team environment;
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid Florida Drivers License.

REPORTER/PRODUCER

Performs highly specialized tasks in the fields of audio production, news, reporting, announcing, and program control and design in support of an integrated media environment.

Job Duties:

  • Attend, record, write and present reports on news events, public meetings, and news conferences.
  • Plan and execute projects such as producing spot news and features for a weekly news magazine show, In Context, and daily call-in show, First Coast Connect;
  • Participate in editorial meetings to determine news coverage;
  • Participate in First Coast Connect call-in show as needed;
  • Produce radio documentaries as assigned;
  • Participate in local television projects;
  • Write entries for WJCT blog;
  • Host daily NPR magazine program and other shows as needed;
  • Participate in station fundraising activities:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Journalism, Broadcasting or related field &/or related equivalent experience;
  • 2+ years experience as a reporter/producer in a radio news room required;
  • Experience in audio editing and field recording techniques;
  • Extensive knowledge of news styles;
  • Proven ability to record interviews and other sound elements;
  • Proven ability to write and speak clearly:
  • Ability to produce short and feature length pieces for radio;
  • Extensive knowledge of digital editing;
  • Public radio experience, preferred.
  • Ability to participate in station fundraising drives;
  • Interface with elected officials, news makers, television producers, journalist from other organizations, and community leaders;
  • Superior organizational skills with proven attention to detail;
  • Strengths working in both an individual and team environment;
