The Original Project

WJCT and the Jacksonville Public Libraries are collaborating to capture the oral histories of the Northeast Florida community through Voices of the First Coast.

The original project is modeled after the nationwide story collecting initiative, StoryCorps. Interested citizens have the opportunity to share their experiences through 40-minute, two-person interviews. The stories on this page are edited clips selected from more thna 80 interviews recorded in the summer of 2010.

This project is made possible through a grant from the Florida Humanities Council with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Women, War & Peace

Women, War & Peace is a bold new five-part PBS television series challenging the conventional wisdom that war and peace are men's domain.

The landscape of war has changed, with women becoming primary targets and suffering unprecedented casualties. Yet, they are simultaneously emerging as necessary partners in brokering lasting peace. Through a grant from the WW&P National Outreach Initiative, WJCT is collecting the stories of local women whose lives have been forever changed by the effects of war.
