Florida Attorney Willie E. Gary is announcing legal action against the shipping company that owned and operated the El Faro cargo ship.

The vessel sank during a routine trip from Jacksonville to San Juan, Puerto Rico, partly because of rough weather caused by Hurricane Joaquin two weeks ago. The ship is said to have lost its propulsion system and then lost contact with shore while sailing directly into the storm’s path.

In a press release sent Wednesday morning, Gary says the estate of crew member Lonnie Jordan is suing TOTE Services, Inc.  for $100 million.
