Ready To Learn

Prepares Children for Success in School

Ready To Learn, PBS

Ready To Learn is a national effort to improve the school readiness of young children through the reach of public broadcasting.

The core of Ready To Learn is a full day of non-violent, commercial-free, educational children’s television programming broadcast free of charge to every American household. The daily broadcast includes award-winning PBS KIDS programs such as Arthur, Dragon Tales, Clifford, Between the Lions, Reading Rainbow, Super Why, WordGirl, WordWorld and Sesame Street.

Ready To Learn also provides extensive outreach services to the First Coast. These services include workshops for parents, teachers, and early childhood professionals, as well as the distribution of children’s books and other literacy resources.

Ask your child’s teacher or principal if your school is a Ready To Learn school. If so, come to the next RTL workshop. If not, check to see where the closest workshop will be and call WJCT at 904.358.6391 to confirm the next workshop date and time. Then share this Web site with your principal to help your school become a Ready To Learn school this year!

PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST

Few things capture a child’s imagination like a good book. Here’s an opportunity for students kindergarten through third grade to join WJCT and our local sponsors: Chamblin Book Mine, Community First Credit Union, Jacksonville Country Day School, Riverside Presbyterian Day School and Regions Bank, as we encourage kids to create their own stories.

To support and encourage children’s creative expression, WJCT is presenting the PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST, a nationwide contest encouraging children, kindergarten through third grade, to write and illustrate their own story.

We’re teaming up with PBS to bring the new PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST, produced by WNED-TV, Buffalo/Toronto and PBS. The Contest, which builds on the 15-year legacy and foundation of the Reading Rainbow Writers and Illustrators Contest, celebrates and embraces children’s love of literature and appetite for learning plus helps get kids writing.

Sound like fun? Then download your entry form and the contest rules, and get going! The Contest runs through March 19, 2010.
