May 13, 2011
WHAT: WJCT’s Ninth Annual Share A Story, a part of the Annual Reading Celebration
WHEN: Saturday, May 14 from 10am – 1pm.
WHERE: Metro Park
DETAILS: WJCT is partnering with the Duval County Schools and the Jacksonville Public Library to host the ninth Annual Reading Celebration, featuring WJCT’s Share a Story. The event takes place at the Metropolitan Park on Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Returning for the fifth year is celebrity host Bianca deGroat, familiar to young readers as Bianca, one of the “real life” kids on Cyberchase, the PBS Kids math mystery series that airs on WJCT-TV weekdays at 6:30 am.
The centerpiece of the Annual Reading Celebration is WJCT’s Share a Story, part of a national PBS Kids campaign designed to inspire adults to help kids develop language and literacy skills through daily activities like reading, rhyming, singing, storytelling and simple conversation. The Annual Reading Celebration recognizes Duval County Public School students who have read 25 or more books, and kicks off the Library’s summer reading program.
The fun-filled event features a wealth of crafts, activities and gifts, and gives young readers the opportunity to meet favorite PBS Kids characters. Appearing this year are PBS Kids’ characters including Cat in The Hat, Curious George, Man With The Yellow Hat, Clifford The Big Red Dog, Martha Speaks and other local celebrities.
Special thanks to Community First Credit Union for helping make this year’s Share a Story possible.
