WJCT Invites First Coast Veterans to Share War Stories Online

September 23, 2007

Web Page Complements Premiere of Ken Burns’ The War on WJCT-TV September 23-October 2

(Jacksonville, FL, September 6, 2007); In connection with WJCT-TV’s premiere of Ken Burn’s seven-part documentary series THE WAR, WJCT invites First Coast veterans and other viewers to join the national conversation and share their personal stories of World War II online. By logging on to wjct.org and clicking on “The War,” viewers can share stories about their experiences on the battlefield and the homefront.

World War II remains very much alive in the memories of millions of Americans. The newly launched Web page includes a simple form that allows viewers to submit short factual stories in text or by phone, and to upload an accompanying photograph. Viewers can also browse or search for stories from other First Coast community members and from viewers around the country.

Ken Burns’ THE WAR premieres on WJCT-TV over two weeks, and airs simultaneously on WJCT-HD (Channel 7.1, or Comcast 440) with surround sound. The seven-part series airs Sun.-Wed., September 23-26 at 8 p.m., and Sun.-Tues., September 30-October 2 at 8 p.m. To maximize the viewing experience, WJCT-TV will rebroadcast each episode on the night it premieres, stage marathon viewings on Sunday afternoons (Sept. 30 and Oct. 7), and rebroadcast the film as a weekly series beginning Wed., Oct. 3 at 9 p.m. http://www.wjct.org/thewar/war.htm

WJCT-TV’s presentation of THE WAR is supported by Books-A-Million, Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Mayo Clinic, and Spohrer Wilner.

WJCT is the community-supported public broadcasting station for the First Coast.
