FCC Recap: UNF Poll Shows Jacksonville Voters In Favor Of HRO, Undecided About Candidates

Early voting is underway in Duval County for the Mar. 24 citywide unitary election, and although voters are concerned about issues affecting Jacksonville, many voters are still unfamiliar with the candidates running for office.

A new poll from UNF’s Public Opinion Research Laboratory shows that crime tops the list of concerns among likely voters in Duval County.

Following that voters care about education and the local economy.

The poll also shows strong voter support for expanding Jacksonville’s Human Rights Ordinance.

Jacksonville Suns Owner To Sell Team At End Of ‘Pedro’s Last Dance’ Season

The family who’s owned the Jacksonville Suns minor-league baseball team since the early 80’s is selling it. The Bragan family has announced the sale will be complete at the end of the baseball season in September.

Akron RubberDucks owner Ken Babby will then take over the franchise. According to a Suns news release, Babby has increased attendance at the Akron ballpark by nearly 30 percent over his past two seasons at the helm of that team.

Business Brief: St. Augustine Poised To Profit From Gay Marriage

Same-sex marriages have been performed in Florida since early January. A study from UCLA predicts Florida business owners will reap the benefits of additional weddings to the tune of $182 million over the next three years.

WJCT Business Analyst John Burr says, in Northeast Florida, St. Augustine is especially well-positioned to capitalize. That’s because, Burr says, business owners there have been marketing to the LGBT crowd for years.
